Do I need to make a video to apply for a job?

Last updated about 5 years ago

You can apply without a video , however, we still recommend adding a video to make your profile more attractive. You may also attach a cover letter.

60% of companies -- including Red Bull, Yale and KPMG to name a few -- already use videos as part of their hiring process. Videos allow you to express yourself and showcase your personality and skills in ways the classic pen and paper (or computer) could never do. A video will help you stand out from other applicants. Applicants who have videos are five times more likely to get an interview for a job than those who do not add one.

The maximum length of a video is 60 seconds, so it is important that you are clear and concise in your message. Managers like candidates who showcase their personality in their videos.

If you are not sure what to talk about, try mentioning a few of the following:

  •  Introduce yourself by name
  •  If you are looking for full time or part-time work
  •  What city or region you are looking to work in
  •  Qualities or skills that make you a good employee. Provide examples (work ethic, team-oriented, punctual, result-driven, etc.)
  •  Personal accomplishments
  •  Special skills or certificates you have
  •  Career and life ambitions
  •  Interests and hobbies outside of the workplace
  •  Why you chose to study in a particular field
  •  Why you chose to work at a previous workplace
  •  Why you volunteered with certain organizations in the past

Don't overthink it; managers just want to get an idea of who you are. :)
